ELECTION INFORMATION

Next Election:  May 2, 2026

Certain people qualify to submit their ballot by mail.  If you meet one of the four following criteria, you may request a ballot by mail:

To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:

be 65 years or older;

be sick or disabled;

be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or

be expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day; or

be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible. 

If you meet one of these criteria, please contact Kenley at City Hall at 903-656-2311.  If you have recently submitted an Application for Ballot by Mail, your application is still valid (unless you are applying based on absence from the County during early voting and Election Day).  A ballot will be mailed to you during the ballot-by-mail voting period for the May 2, 2026 election date.  The deadline to submit an Application for Ballot by Mail is April 20, 2026.

Application for Place on Ballot (click for Application)

Application for Place on Ballot must be filed no later than 5:00 pm on February 16, 2024, at Lone Star City Hall, 200 W. Industrial Blvd., P.O. Box 218, Lone Star, TX 75668.  Original Application must be submitted in person, by mail or common contract carrier (UPS, FedEx).  The City of Lone Star does not charge a filing fee.

Qualifications for Office:

Type A General Law City (Local Gov't Code, Section 22.032)

Mayor

Residence -- 1 year in the state prior to the filing deadline; 1 year in the city prior to election day

Age – 18

Must be a registered voter in the City of Lone Star by the filing deadline.

Alderman

Residence -- 1 year in the state before filing deadline; 6 months in the city before filing deadline (Texas Elec. Code, Section 141.001(a); Brown v. Patterson, 609 SW 2nd 287)

Age – 18

   Must be a registered voter in the City of Lone Star by the filing deadline.

Both Mayor and Alderman positions have two-year terms.  All positions are elected in a pure at-large system, meaning the candidates with the most votes are elected.
